Allan Taylor One of our all time most popular guests.

20-09-09 Down Trodden String Band "the music is tight and together but also fun .. the CD makes for entertaining listening with standout moments throughout" (Living Tradition) "It's a brew piped out of the Ozarks and bottled in Bakewell, and it tastes like the pure drop to me. Friskier than a coon dog with fleas." (Stirrings)

04-10-09 Skyhook are an exciting collaboration of three of the finest acoustic musicians in Sheffield, England. Martin Harwood, Cath James and Eoin Teather play traditional tunes and songs from Scotland, Ireland, Cape Breton Island, plus some brand new self-penned compositions. "was inadvertantly, overwhelmingly blown away at Sheffield Folk Festival yesterday by a stunning three piece... Two superb fiddlers accompanied by a fine, fine guitarist (who also turned out to be an unbelievably good singer)" - Keith Donnelly

18-10-09 Quicksilver (Hilary Spencer & Grant Baynham) "I am a great fan of Hilary Spencer, as a solo artist or as a member of Artisan or the Mrs Ackroyd Band. She is a simply wonderful singer. Here, in QuickSilver, she is joined by the incredibly talented guitarist and songwriter, Grant Baynham, who wrote many of the songs on this album. Their performance seems effortless, an indication of just how good they are, whether singing their own material, blues, Piaf, or Jake Thackray songs. Whatever the style, they manage it with ease."
25-10-09 Singers Night
01-11-09 Pegleg Ferrett are Keith Pollard, Geoff Anderson and Benny Graham. They specialise in unaccompanied three-part harmony singing and lean towards material, which is either traditional or written in the traditional idiom. They have a bias towards industrial songs from the North-East of England but also perform a number of humorous songs.

Dave Burland The expression 'laid back', was coined for Dave Burland. With his easy relaxed style of guitar playing & his mellow voice it can be easy to forget he fronts Shagpile (a rock n roll band well known by Whitby Festivalits). From Traditional to Richard Thompson with a touch of Black Sabbath along the way. YouTube Link

Peter & Barbara Snape "I enjoyed your set very much the other week at the Bothy, as did a lot of other people. DP told me it was the best night he'd had for ages at the club, and we agreed it is so good to hear songs such as the Banks of the Nile, which have dropped out of the repertoire but which are so strong and vital". :- Kevin Littlewood - Bothy Folk Club, Southport, May 2008 "I really liked the way they combined Gracie Fields music hall songs with traditional songs from all over the British Isles. Peter’s melodeon and Barbara’s vocals combine so well".:-The Milkmaid Folk Arts Centre

Dave Ellis & Boo Howard Dave & Boo are based in London with a musical partnership that began in 1979. Dave Ellis came to London from Liverpool in 1970. He released a solo album on Sonet records in 1973 which gave him nationwide exposure including appearances on the Old Grey Whistle Test and In Concert. D&B's present acoustic style evolved in 1998 with Dave's intricate guitar work and Boo's mellow vocal combining to create something new and all their own. Dave has become known around the clubs for his unique guitar style plus his highly individual banjo tunes, while Boo completes the D&B sound with her exceptional voice and superb bass playing. Their harmony singing is second to none. YouTube Link

14-02-10 Sara Grey & Keiron Means "Guitar, 5-string banjo and voices blend intuitively on old-time US songs and Scots and Irish ballads. Blues, back-porch picking and tall tales all come
into the frame, on a regular return gig for this mother and son duo. Passion
shines through every note they sing - water from a deeper well indeed"!

07-03-10 John Conolly A welcome return to the Bothy. "John is an internationally respected singer-songwriter, whose compositions, such as the classic 'Fiddlers' Green' and 'Punch and Judy Man' are known and loved all over the world. Many of John's songs have a tang of the sea, reflecting his upbringing on the east coast of England; he is also a fine interpreter of the tradional songs of his native Lincolnshire". :- Tudor Folk Club Chesham, Bucks YouTube Link

21-03-10 Judy & Dennis Cook (USA) "Judy Cook is one of the finest exponents of ballad singing that the current American folk music revival has produced. Her depth of understanding and story-telling ability in ballad form is rivaled only by her dedication to the music and her willingness to do her research. But all that aside - I'd go and listen to her anytime and anywhere." : - Lou Killen

Tich Frier "SMALL GUY, BIG VOICE, SHARP WIT" Six words that sum up a man with a load of talent and the experience to back it up. Well known for the voice, the driving guitar and the wicked sense of fun, more than forty years on the road have brought a richness to the voice and a dryness to the humour which wins any audience.

18-04-10 Pete Coe Once decribed as "A One-Man Folk Industry!", Pete is one of mine and the clubs favorite guests. With songs both traditional, contemporary, serious, humerous and thought provoking, accompanied by Pete on Melodion, Banjo, Bouzouki, Appalaichian Dulcimer & Feet. YouTube Clip

Special Concert night with Bridget St John and Michael Chapman, Tickets and more details from Pete Rimmer 07973 623210 The Bothy Folk Club in Southport is hosting a very special night of music featuring Bridget St John and Michael Chapman. A true legend of the British folk scene, Bridget St John has one of those voices, distinctively deep and somewhat melancholic, that once heard is never forgotten. Michael is without doubt one of our finest and most emotive guitarists and this, coupled with the instantly recognisable voice and his refusal to take the easy, comfortable path, and has made him one of the most respected musicians around. Martyn Wyndham-Read "Martyn Wyndham Read can charm an audience with the range and quality of his voice. One of the most frequently requested guests he has become a firm favourite at the club. His love of Australian songs and stories is coupled with his love of traditional material and listen out for the occasional Graham Miles song. His fund of stories are delivered with a dry wit. Again, come early for a seat". YouTube Link

Isambarde are paying their 1st visit to the Bothy. "ISAMBARDE are a folk band with tremendous energy and enthusiasm. They are the unusual and winning combination of Chris's driving guitar, Emily's incisive fiddle playing and Jude's lyrical oboe coupled with great full on vocal harmonies. They play a great set and are an asset to any festival bill. Book 'em!!":-Phil Beer, "Isambarde are a really good young band. They’re good to listen to, good to look at and it’s very obvious that they enjoy performing.”:- Vin Garbutt. YouTube Link

Nancy Kerr & James Fagan Another very welcome 1st visit. Winners of the 2003 BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Duo. This well-loved duo combine highly skilful and innovative performance with accessibility, warmth and stage presence. Rarely are duos so full in sound; Nancy’s earthy and exquisite fiddle and viola playing dances with the striking rhythmic texture of James’s guitar-bouzouki, while their rich singing both as soloists and in harmony evokes the stories of the songs they choose and write. They approach their music with energy and infectious smiles. (Here here) YouTube Link
