I was brought up in a large Irish family, who have a talent for socialising. My Dad was a good singer and at parties that were regularly held, if you could string a few notes together you were expected to sing. My early influences were traditional Irish music and the ballads as sung by John Mc Cormac and Joseph Locke.
I spent a lot of time in Ireland during my teenage years and danced to 'Hank Williams Music'. I developed a taste for country / blues played with feeling. At the same time I was taking in the musical explosion of the late sixties.
I was ultimately influenced by and then intrigued by the possibility of songwriting while listening to Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. Other influences in this area were Joni Mitchell and John Prine. I always liked songwriters who had something to say. It was from this point that I started to learn to play guitar and write songs myself.
